A workshop on “Self-Care and Teaching the Don Bosco Way” was conducted by Rev. Fr. Rajesh for the teaching staff of Don Bosco School on 9th June 2026. The session focused on the importance of self-care and its role in helping educators effectively care for and guide their students.
Fr. Rajesh emphasized that self-care is not selfishness but taking responsibility for oneself. He explained that only those who take care of themselves can truly care for others. Teachers were encouraged to recognize the importance of physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual well-being through healthy habits such as proper rest, exercise, prayer, reading, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

The resource person highlighted the need for educators to continually “sharpen their axe” by updating their knowledge, improving their teaching skills, learning new methodologies, and preparing well for their classes. He also encouraged teachers to de-optimize their lives by taking time for rest, creativity, and reflection in order to avoid burnout and remain effective in their mission.
Speaking about Don Bosco’s educational approach, Fr. Rajesh explained the three ways of caring for students: the Repressive Way, the Preventive Way, and the Expressive Way. He noted that Don Bosco Schools primarily follow the Preventive and Expressive systems, which focus on understanding, guiding, encouraging, and accompanying young people with love, reason, and kindness.
The workshop was enriching and inspiring, reminding teachers that self-care, continuous growth, and genuine concern for students are essential elements of effective education in the Don Bosco tradition.
